WARREN, Ohio -
In Warren, city council is working on several quality of life solutions.
City council plans to spend nearly $1 million to buy five snow plows to help clear roads in a more timely fashion.
"I'm pretty sure it will be a year or two before we get them in hand," said Councilwoman Ashley Minor.
Minor tells 21 News there is still a need for hiring more plow drivers.
The city also voted to have the Trumbull Land Bank apply for grants to tear down 189 blighted homes and buildings that are vetted and ready to be demolished.
"Some of those buildings are horrible, horrible for the neighborhoods. They tear down property values, they're home to vermin, there is drug use that goes on in houses. It will really go a long way to help our city," said Councilman Greg Greathouse.
In the future, city council will consider spending $45,000 dollars from $500,000 dollars, Warren received from an EPA settlement with businesses that polluted the Mahoning River in Trumbull County and other rivers across Ohio.
The money would pay for a River Front development plan that envisions paved paths connecting Burbank Park with Packard Park, with Perkins Park and neighborhoods. All three parks that are on the banks of the Mahoning River.
"This feasibility study would not require money from our general fund or taxpayers. It at least gives us an opportunity to get the study done, then we will see how much development costs."
