YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Youngstown Press Club hosted a panel on Thursday discussing the future of Black media in the modern world.

The panel was hosted by long-time Valley content creator Arthur Byrd and featured prominent Valley journalists including 21 News's very own Malaynia Spiva discussing the challenges that face Black media professionals.

Byrd told 21 News why Black representation is so important in media here in the Valley.

"We went through an era where it was really lopsided, there wasn't a voice. What Black media does is give a voice to those who don't have a voice," Byrd said.

Byrd says just 4% of the current media is Black between broadcasting, newspapers and digital media.
