YOUNGSTOWN - Youngstown City Council this week is being asked to approve spending as much as $40,000 to repair damage caused by a major water leak that closed the Youngstown Police Department late last year.

Legislation on Wednesday's council agenda includes an item asking the Board of Control to pay a bill from Daniel A. Terreri and Sons for emergency restoration of damage to the police department's fourth floor caused by a burst water line on December 13.

The money would come from the city's Building and Grounds Operating fund.

The leak, which one officer likened to "Niagara Falls", closed Boardman Street between Market St. and Hazel for several days while repairs were made.
