Ohio - The annual concealed carry statistics were released in the 2021 Ohio Law on Concealed Handguns report, which puts Mahoning County at the top of the state's 88 counties when it comes to the number of denied CCW permits.

In 2021, 336 applications were denied, compared to 75 denials the year before.

The number of regular-license denials statewide was 50% higher than the 2020 total, marking a record high for the second consecutive year.  Across the state 1,777 were denied in 2020 compared with 2,668 in 2021. The law requires sheriffs to deny an application to any person who fails to meet the eligibility criteria.

Overall, the report shows that the state of Ohio issued 202,920 concealed carry licenses. 

In 2019, the state of Ohio issued 96,892 new concealed carry licenses, which was a significant jump from 2019 when only 54,426 new licenses were issued. 

In 2020, Mahoning County was listed ten out of ten on a list of counties with the greatest number of new concealed carry licenses, with 2,360 new licenses. 

In 2020, new licenses dropped about 40,000, going from 96,892 in 2019 to 54,426 in 2020. 

In 2020, Warren was listed 6th on the state's list of counties with the most renewals, coming in at 2,111 renewals, after the state average rose about 4,000 from 77,959 to 72,340. Warren was also listed 8 on the state's list of counties with most license suspensions, marking in at 38 suspensions. 

Ohio, in general, went down about 3,000 suspensions in 2020, going from 1,956 suspensions in 2019, to 1,618 in 2020. 

Mahoning County was listed 3rd for counties with revoked licenses, the overall state average dropped around 500 revokes, going from 939 in 2019 to 429 in 2020. 

Applications in 2020 were up in Ohio, jumping about 400 applications from 1,310 in 2019 to 1,777 in 2020. Mahoning County was listed 7th, with 75 new applications.

Overall in 2020, Mahoning County had 2,360 new licenses distributed, while Columbiana had 1,377, Trumbull had 983 and Warren had 1,416. 

For 2021, the state of Ohio issued 4,000 fewer licenses from 2020, going from 96,892 to 94,298 in 2021. 

License renewals went up around 30,000 renewals, going from 72,340 to 108,622 in 2021. 

License suspensions were up around 2,000 suspensions, going from 1,618 in 2020 to 1,880 in 2021. 

Mahoning County was listed 7 out of ten for license suspension, with 57 suspensions. 

License revocations went down 9, from 429 in 2020 to 420 in 2021. 

Mahoning County was listed 2nd for revoked licenses, with 56. Trumbull County was listed 8th with 4 licenses revoked. 

Overall, Columbiana County received 1,162 new concealed carry licenses, while Mahoning County received 2,645, Trumbull had 872 new licenses and Warren received 1,031.
