YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A local bodybuilder won big in Columbus over the weekend taking home an award from the Arnold Amateur Competition.

Youngstown's very own Aaren Hilson took home the award for the Classic Physique category in the competition. Hilson described the criteria of this category.

"It's a division that is based off of height and weight. And with that height and weight, you're judged upon how aesthetic you can make yourself look with that weight and height limit," Hilson said.

Hilson tells 21 News he is 5'8, so he was required to drop to 190 pounds while maintaining as much muscle weight as possible.

Hilson is an alumnus of Liberty High School. He tells 21 News he's been into bodybuilding since "the age of being able to tell what a human is." He tells us the main reason he started bodybuilding as a coping mechanism.

"Of course, growing up in Youngstown, in my neighborhood it was either sports, excelling in school or doing whatever else you could to stay out of trouble. I didn't play much sports, but I took a high interest in bodybuilding so I had something to use as a source of positive energy," Hilson said.

Hilson is a personal trainer. He has an online coaching business called Hilson Fitness where he takes in people who are looking to better themselves physically or looking to make changes in their daily routine and "helps them become the best version of themselves."

Additionally, Hilson works with various sponsors and reaches out to people nationwide to help them incorporate healthy habits into their lives.
