WARREN, Ohio -  Fire and smoke heavily damaged a home on Warren’s northeast side early Friday.

City firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire on the 300 block of Genesee NE shortly before 7 a.m.

A man who firefighters say had been cooking at the time the fire broke out, escaped unharmed.

The fire started in the home’s basement and spread to the kitchen, causing heavy damage.

Investigators are still looking for the cause of the fire.
