Two people are named in a Mahoning County Grand Jury indictment stemming from an investigation by Struthers Police into the death of a dog this past January.

Indictments handed up Thursday charge Joseph Angelo, 25, and 24-year-old Jamie Burk with two counts each of cruelty to companion animals.

Animal Charity agents say they wanted to inspect a Frank Street home after learning that a dog that died there appeared to be malnourished.

When they were denied access to the home, the agents enlisted the help of police who got a court order to conduct a search.

The police report says they found clothing, garbage, and food on the floor of the home.

They found two dog cages and a dog in one room. One officer says he could smell urine, claiming that his eyes burned and his throat felt scratchy.

A room where children were staying had worn-out mattresses and a dog barricaded in a closet, according to the report.

Struthers Police tell 21 News 7 dogs, 1 cat, and 1 iguana were removed from the home that day and taken to Animal Charities
