It was a terrifying situation for a young Warren father and his fiance in their Peace Avenue Apartment and was anything but peaceful.

"I was just chilling inside with a couple of my friends just hanging out minding our business," 18-year-old Carter Hall said, "I heard a couple of sirens, sounded like it was coming down from Federal so I stepped outside, didn't think too much of it."

It all unfolded Thursday around midnight when Hall saw a man driving recklessly down his street.

"I was actually outside and almost got hit by him for real," he said.

He said the man drove into his yard just feet away from where his family and friends were sitting right on his couch.

Hall had no idea the suspected burglar driving car would return on foot and barge into his apartment in an attempt to hide in their bedroom where Hall's one-year-old baby boy, Kayson, was asleep.

"I just didn't know what to do honestly," he said, "At that point, I just wanted to make sure he was safe and get him out."

Police then arrived to arrest the alleged burglar, 24-year-old Chavez Gilmore, who is now behind bars.

"He just looked at me upstairs and he was like 'Why did you do this to me?' He really said that," Hall said, "And I was like 'What do you mean why? My son's in the house, you could have had a gun. It could have been so much worse and thank God it wasn't."

Police said Gilmore was driving a stolen car down East Market Street, prompting the chase.

Authorities report they later found stolen items from a different apartment complex inside Gilmore's book bag.
