An Austintown woman has been arrested on charges filed in connection with the death of her two-month-old son.

The Mahoning County Grand Jury on Thursday indicted 23-year-old Ashley Williams on charges of involuntary manslaughter and child endangering.  Williams was booked into the county jail on Friday.

The charges stem from the death of William’s son, Dalvin Williams, who passed away on July 22, 2021.

According to a police report, the mother said left the child on a pillow in a bassinet while the mother went upstairs to change clothes.  Williams told police when she returned the infant wasn't breathing.

Upon further questioning,  police say that Williams admitted that she hadn't seen the baby since six o'clock that morning before finding him unresponsive more than eight hours later.

Efforts by firefighters and an ambulance crew to revive the child were not successful.

The coroner ruled that the infant died as a result of unsafe sleeping conditions.
