Columbiana’s Main Street Theatre will play a part in a Valleywide celebration of the cult movie classic “The Big Lebowski” this weekend.

The theatre on North Main Street will have two showings of the movie at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2022.

Dubbed by organizers as the  “Big LeBrewski Festival”, the two-day event begins Friday celebrating “The Dude” a character made famous in the movie by actor Jeff Bridges, as well as his friends.

The 1998 comedy is about slacker and avid bowler Jeffrey Lebowski who becomes involved in a case of mistaken identity.

Sponsored by Birdfish Brewing and the Columbiana Cultural Collective, other events are scheduled at Youngstown’s Westside Bowl, Havanna House, and Youngstown Coffee.

A list of events and venues may be seen here.

Main Street Theatre is also planning a festival featuring the movies of director Quentin Tarantino in October.

The theatre will show other movies and offer live shows as well, offering itself as a fundraising venue for the community.

After fears that it would close, the Main Street Theatre was purchased earlier this year by John and Beth Kufletiner of Kufleitner Chrysler Dodge Jeep and Ram of Columbiana.

The Kufleitners will spend the next five years acquiring the property. Once acquired, they will then lease it out to the Columbiana Cultural Collective who will show their projects among other features at the theater.

The Columbiana Cultural Collective was formed by Columbiana Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Erich Offenburg in April of 2021 in order to keep the theater from closing due to COVID-19.
