Scrappers temporarily changing name to Mahoning Valley Peppers in Oil

Baseball is a timeless American tradition: the crack of the bat, the smell of peanuts, beer cans popping open and the taste of....peppers in oil.
Well, that's what the Mahoning Valley Scrappers must be thinking of when imagining those summer evenings. The team announced it will be changing its name to the Mahoning Valley Peppers in Oil for one game only on Monday, July 25.
The Peppers in Oil dish became popular in the 1800's as a European heritage staple. Locally, the Brier-Hill community in Youngstown has ties to the food.
But the Scrappers want to see who makes the best Peppers in Oil in the Valley. The team says restaurants and businesses can purchase a sampling table which includes a table to provide samples and an option to sell their Peppers in Oil.
The promotion is for a good cause, too. The Peppers in Oil jerseys will be auctioned off at the team's July 25th game in a silent auction and through an app called LiveSource. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the United Way of Trumbull County.
The Scrappers season begins on June 2, 2022.
