Mahoning Valley - In a year that proved difficult for many organizations, a newly released annual report from the Community Foundation of Mahoning Valley (CFMC) shows consistent growth within the organization in 2021.

CFMC works with local philanthropists and non-profits to make investments around Mahoning and Trumbull Counties.

Over the course of 2021, the Community Foundation was able to award over $2 million in grants to local non-profits.

"Last year was a challenging and exciting one for the Community Foundation," says Foundation President Shari Harrell. "2021 laid the groundwork for many of our long-term goals and we ended the year better equipped to work toward our mission of creating a more inclusive and equitable Mahoning Valley."

The Annual Report attributes the growth to new funds, new software, new staff and a new racial equity assessment.

CFMC opened 10 new philanthropic funds last year, each with a different set of interests and a goal of bettering the Mahoning Valley.

Also highlighted in the report is Kent State University's prison education pilot program at Trumbull Correctional Institution, a mobile market project, and support of The English Center of Youngstown's courses that teach English and other skills to local immigrants.
