Parishioners are mourning as they wake up this weekend after learning that a longtime Valley priest died overnight.

Saint Michael Parish in Canfield said on Saturday that Father Terry Hazel passed away. A cause of death was not immediately known.

"Please keep Father Terry and the Hazel family in your prayers," the parish said in a social media post. "Father Terry often concluded funeral homilies by reminding us that no one dies alone, someone always comes to welcome you. In thanksgiving, we praise God for his gracious welcome of Father Terry into the Kingdom, and for the loving smiles of his parents and siblings who were there to welcome him home."

One parishioner said that Hazel was monumental to the community.

"Father Terry was Canfield's priest," the parishioner said.

Calling hours for Father Terry Hazel will take place on Tuesday, April 12, from 4 p.m. until 7p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Wednesday, April 13, at 11 a.m. in Saint Michael Parish.
