A man and his dog managed to escape a burning home early Sunday morning on Youngstown's west side.

The flames broke out around 1:00 AM in the 500 block of S. Hazelwood Avenue.

When fire crews arrived, they found flames shooting through the roof of the home. Crews managed to get the fire under control but the home suffered extensive damage.
