LISBON, Ohio -
For more than two years - 884 days and counting to be exact - Janice, an American Staffordshire Terrier Mix, has been at the Columbiana County Pound.
She is the longest resident of the pound in recent history.
She was found as a stray in Wellsville in 2019 and is described as a 'very sweet, energetic and playful girl.'
"Her personality is awesome. She is a really good dog. She is very strong," described Dog Warden Heidi Wallace. "Kind of hard to walk on a leash, but she gets so excited when she gets walked that she just pulls a little bit."
When asked "why" the now 9 year-old dog has been overlooked by families for so long, pound officials say it could be because of her color, or her breed.
"Well, if you've ever heard the black dog story. They get over looked a lot. We get several black dogs in here, probably more so than any color. And just the Pitbull mentality. But she is a super super sweet dog," said Wallace.
Officials say the ideal home for Janice would not include cats. Janice gets along with some, but not all other dogs, and officials say she does okay with children.
Anyone interested in adopting Janice can call the pound at 330-424-6663 ext. 1756 or ext. 1757 and schedule a meet-and-greet. The adoption fee is $152.00
