A Youngstown man is behind bars after police say he fired multiple shots in a Youngstown neighborhood, some of them in the direction of children.

David Britton, 46, is charged with two counts of felonious assault and one count of discharge of a deadly weapon.

According to a police report, officers responded to a home on LaBelle Avenue in Youngstown Sunday evening.

When officers arrived they were met by a woman who told police her neighbor (Britton) was firing what sounded like gunshots from inside his house.

The woman also told police that she ran outside to see what was going on when Britton walked out onto his front porch with the firearm in hand.

Police say the woman's children playing across the street, started to run back to the home in a panic.

That's when the woman said Britton threatened to kill her and started shooting toward her and in the direction of the children before he went back inside his home.

Officers set up a perimeter around Britton's house when they arrived and gave commands for Britton to exit.

Police say Britton repeatedly opened the front door and yelled "I'm not coming out."

After several attempts to coax Britton out of the residence, Britton finally emerged onto the front porch.

Police say Britton attempted to run away back into the home requiring officers to tackle and subdue him.

Officers found four spent casings in the street along with four spent casings on the front porch, one live round underneath Britton's bed, and two boxes of ammunition.

Britton is currently being held in the Mahoning County Jail.
