Over a year ago, St. Patrick Roman Catholic church in Hubbard was engulfed in flames, seriously damaging the building.

Now, all the old and damaged parts have been removed and the church is in the process of rebuilding.

"It's like nothing's been happening but now with Easter coming everything came back to life," said Father Michael Swierz of St. Patrick church.

While many are celebrating Holy Week, now seems like the perfect time for construction to begin.

Father Swierz tells 21 News construction will start in the basement of the church, where the fire broke out, so the foundation will be established. Then, the plan is to work all the way up to repairing the roof.

"The organ is being restored, pews are going to be refinished, the ceiling will be refinished," said Fr. Swierz. "So, a lot more work to do, but we're on our way," he said.

This is the second Easter members of the church will not be able to celebrate in the building.

Father Swierz tells 21 News it's not about the building, it's about the people. All week long, they'll be in the Parrish center.

Holy Week celebrates the rising of Jesus Christ and Father Swierz is encouraged by this because the church too, is rising.

"Everything that we do, it's all about hope," said Father Swierz. "What more beautiful time for us to have this hope fulfilled than during Easter," he said.

Father Swierz hopes the building will be completely restored by Spring 2023.
