WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Mike Kelly (PA-16) issued a statement on Thursday regarding Russia's formal announcement of sanctions against him.

In his statement, Congressman Kelly says he considers these sanctions a "badge of honor for standing up against Vladimir Putin and his brutal regime."

The full statement reads as follows.

"Today I woke up to the news that the Russian Government has formally levied sanctions against me. I consider these sanctions a badge of honor for standing up against Vladimir Putin and his brutal regime."

"I've never had bank accounts or summer vacation plans in Russia, but I'll take Putin's sanctions against me as confirmation that my stance against Russian aggression in Ukraine is making a difference. I'm proud to be on Putin's list."

Kelly is among 400 members of the U.S. House of Representatives sanctioned by Russia. The announcement followed similar sanctions Russia previously levied against U.S. President, Joe Biden and other senior White House officials including numerous Deputies of the Russian State Duma.

Valley Congressman, Tim Ryan is also among the 400 members sanctioned by Russia. In a Tweet, Ryan stated he's "clearly doing something right" if he's "being punished by a war criminal and butcher for standing up for freedom."
