July sentencing set for Negley man convicted in drag racing death

A July court hearing has been set for a Negley man who pleaded guilty to charges filed in connection with the death of a teen girl who died in his car during a drag race.
Instead of going on trial, 20-year-old Corey Evans on Tuesday pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and two counts of DUI, according to prosecutors.
Evans was charged following the death of fifteen-year-old Angelica Perkins who was a passenger in his Chevy Cavalier when it crashed along Route 154 in February of last year.
Perkins was thrown from the car, suffering fatal injuries. Evans received only minor injuries.
Troopers testified that Evans admitted to drinking two shots of rum before the crash.
According to a toxicology report, Evans tested positive for amphetamines.
Evans is scheduled to appear in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court on July 18 for sentencing.
