FirstEnergy backup powerline prevents outage after car takes down pole by Westside Bowl

A power pole had to be removed from the ground outside of the Westside Bowl in Youngstown after a vehicle sheered the side of it and knocked down wires along the street Wednesday afternoon.
Nobody was injured in the accident on Mahoning Avenue and West Heights Avenue. Not even FirstEnergy customers were impacted with any power outages. FirstEnergy spokesperson Lauren Siburkis said that nearby residents' power was switched to a backup powerline so nobody would be hit with an outage while crews worked to clean up the scene.
Backup lines are becoming commonplace throughout Austintown and Youngstown, Siburkis said. Both municipalities have faced numerous outages in the last year.
"By having these poles in place, customers are able to maintain electric service during unforeseen events like vehicle accidents," said Siburkis.
It is unclear when the pole will be replaced outside of the Westside Bowl
