Three Valley high schools ae undergoing a competition throughout April to see which school has the best number of vaccine levels.

Rayen Early College High School, Chaney High School and East High School are all taking part in the challenge, teaming up with Ohio's Medicaid Managed Care plans, the Minority Community Vaccination Action Group and Youngstown City Health Department.

The challenge is an effort to increase the COVID-19 vaccination rates in youth. The Eugenia Atkinson Center offered an open clinic Wednesday evening as part of the challenge.

Vaccine rates throughout the tri-county region are substantially below the Ohio average.

Each participating school will receive up to $3,000 with a minimum of $1,000 per school based on the number of students who get vaccinated. Each student, teacher or parent getting their first COVID-19 vaccine as part of the challenge will get a $100 gift card.

Boosters also count toward the challenge, but do not receive any gift cards.

If you couldn't make it to Wednesday's clinic, but still want to get your vaccine, there are plenty more clinics being offered in the coming weeks. Stay tuned to 21 News for updates on new local clinics.
