Car fans in the Valley have something to be excited about this Earth day.

Sims Buick-GMC in Warren sold it's first Hummer EV. The all-electric, first edition truck sold for $112,000. The 9,000-pound, Eco-friendly machine is loaded with all the bells and whistles, makes 1,000 horsepower, mirrors that number in torque, has a 3-second 0-60 time, and extreme off-road capabilities. In addition, the truck has a range of over 300 miles.

"It's the only hummer that will be delivered in the valley, my understanding, possibly for the entire year.", said Bill Sims, owner of Sims Buick-GMC-Nissan.

That lucky guy, George Rogers of Warren, who picked up the keys and his brand-new ride Friday.

"The biggest thing I'll like is obviously it's electric and I'm going to save probably $4,000-$5,000 a year in gas.", Rogers said.

The demand is an eye-popping facet, in and of itself. Sims says they have over 10,000 reservations for the Hummer, but production is nowhere near that at this point.

George put in his reservation in fall of 2020, which he tells 21 News, filled up in ten minutes, two years later, he'll be one of only ten people in the state of Ohio, and the only one in the Mahoning Valley, on the road in the first-edition Hummer EV.

"It's exciting, I had one of these back in the day.", said George, talking about the mid-to-late 2000s models. "We got rid of it in 2008 when the gas went back up over four dollars back then. When I saw it coming out as an electric one I thought it was a good opportunity.", Rogers added.

Unlike it's gas guzzling ancestor, this machine is driven by an ultium battery, those batteries will supplied by the Ultium Cells plant in Lordstown, which is on track to begin production in August. That mean's jobs, and according to the battery plant, more than 1,300 by the end of 2023.
