PYMATUNING TWP., Pa. - Authorities continue to investigate what led up to a kayaker being found unresponsive in the Shenango River Lake Wednesday afternoon.

Pymatuning Township Police said the Mercer County woman, whose name has not been released, was kayaking by herself near the Mahaney Boat Launch on the lake.

A passerby spotted the woman's arm draped over the kayak, which had been overturned in the water, around 1 p.m., officers said.

Police found the woman breathing but unresponsive when they arrived. First responders at the scene said she was not wearing a life vest.

She was taken by helicopter to Mercy Hospital in Youngstown.

Shenango Lake Resource Manager Bill Spring tells 21 News that the 39-year-old woman was last listed in critical condition on Wednesday.

Several crews retrieved the woman from the water, including the South Pymatuning and Hermitage fire departments.

Officer Covert of the Pymatuning Police Department told 21 News that the woman is now stable, and is expected to make a full recovery.
