MCCTC, Canfield Senior surprised with custom racing wheelchair

CANFIELD, Ohio - Sports just got a little easier for a Canfield High School and MCCTC senior who is on the track team as a "seated athlete."
Cody Piver was surprised with a racing wheelchair that he can use to compete in adaptive sports.
The chair was custom made to fit Cody perfectly. He tells 21 News this was a huge shock, and will make his performance on the track better than before.
"It's definitely easier to run with something that's built for you specifically, that you get to know and you know how it best works," Cody says.
He got his new chair just in time for his senior night and state track meet in Columbus next month.
Cody was gifted the chair from the local non-profit Cody's Promise- which aims to raise money to help students with disabilities.
The non-profit was created in 2021 with Cody in mind. Though Cody was the first benefactor, the organization hopes to grow and provide other seated athletes with the equipment and support they need to succeed.
Funds for Cody's wheelchair were raised through GoFundMe and direct donations. To donate to Cody's Promise and help support other athletes, click here. Their 2022 fundraising goal is $50,000.
"It's definitely a sense of freedom, when it comes to doing a school sport that is actually adaptable to a disability," explains Cody.
