Ohio & Mahoning Valley - NBC projects that J.D. Vance has overcome his opponents in a highly contested primary Senate race to win the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate.

Vance was followed in the polls by Josh Mandel, Matt Dolan, Mike Gibbons, Jane Timken, Mark Pukita, and Neil Patel.

He rose in the polls after he was endorsed by Former President Trump.

Several of Vance's opponents have released concession statements.

Jane Timken released a statement conceding her loss and pledging support for Vance's candidacy:

"I thank all of my supporters and the many Ohioans who cast their ballots and put their faith in me. While tonight's results are disappointing, I am incredibly proud of the race we've run. From day one, I've focused on a campaign for Ohio, in Ohio, fueled by Ohioans, and that grassroots support was evident throughout. I am proud to have earned the endorsement of Senator Rob Portman and over 200 conservative leaders across the state, am proud to have raised more Ohio dollars than any other candidate, am proud to have built the largest grassroots army in the country, and am proud to have highlighted many important issues Ohio families are dealing with, including skyrocketing inflation, indoctrination in our schools, and the devastating effects of open border policies.

I am passionate about the future of this state and country, which is why Republicans must retake the Senate and House in November to right the ship and put a check on Joe Biden's disastrous policies. I congratulate JD Vance and fully support him in November."

Matt Dolan also pledged support for Vance moving forward:

"JD Vance and I have debated our differences, and in this hard fought campaign he was successful. I know we share a love for our country because it’s not just a place, but an idea, and a cause worth fighting for. Ohio Republicans have spoken and now it’s time to look forward, united in our conservative convictions to make our state and nation a better place to live, work, and raise a family.

“No state has been hurt more by Joe Biden’s agenda than Ohio. The livelihoods of our families, workers and businesses remain under threat by the broken promises and weak leadership of radicalized, one-party rule in Washington, D.C. Those fortunate to have a job are working harder for less. Congressman Tim Ryan votes with Joe Biden 100 percent of the time. He represents a continuation of the same failed policies that undermine prosperity, threaten Ohio workers, and restrain the vitality of American competition with China. Just as I will never quit fighting for Ohio, I pledge to unite our party and endorse JD Vance to be our next U.S. Senator.”

Mike Gibbons released a similar statement:

“I’m humbled, proud, and honored by the overwhelming support we received from Ohioans all across the Buckeye state tonight. Even though tonight did not go our way tonight, we won’t be discouraged. We have a lot of work left to do. Tomorrow is the first day of the general election - the most important of our lifetime. Congrats to JD Vance and his well earned victory. I fully support him as the Republican nominee. Never forget, our strength as America does not begin in Washington, it begins here in Ohio. As Republicans we must unite to ensure our values are represented in Washington.”
