Sons of The American Legion announce Poland Memorial Day Procession

POLAND TWP., Ohio - This Memorial Day, Poland will return with their 93rd Memorial Day Procession.
Hosted by the Sons of The American Legion Mahoning Valley Squadron 15, preparations for this year's event will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at the Historic Riverside Cemetery.
It will be held in conjunction with the 'Flying Flags for Heroes' National Service Project. The project aims to place at least one-million flags on the
graves of veterans. Squadron 15 will place 1,500 flags, with the Detachment of Ohio committing to place 100,000 flags before the end of this August.
Members of the public who wish to participate in the decoration of graves should meet at first driveway behind the chapel by 8:55 a.m.
At 9:15 a.m. on Memorial Day, May 30, Sons of The American Legion will conduct their annual Four Chaplains ceremony, where they will honor four military chaplains who lost their lives after their ship, the USS Dorchester, was hit by a torpedo and sunk. That event will take place at the War Memorial Building Post 15 home, located at 35 Cortland Way in Poland.
Beginning at 10 a.m. on Memorial Day, the 93rd Annual Memorial Day Procession will step off from the from Post 15, and will travel down College Street, turn right on to South Main Street, where a ceremony for those Lost at Sea will take place on the Main Street Bridge.
