Memorial Day Parade and Service returns to Boardman after two year hiatus

BOARDMAN, Ohio - For the first time since 2019 and the Covid-19 Pandemic, Boardman Township will hold its 118th Annual Memorial Day Parade and Service.
On Monday, May 30th, the community is invited to honor those who have served, are serving, and those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
The parade will step-off at 10 a.m. from the Center Middle School, then proceed North on Rt. 7 to the Rt. 224 intersection, then East on Rt. 224 to Boardman Township Park.
The parade's Grand Marshall is Dr. Fred Soller, a retired local dentist and World War II Veteran.
Following the parade, at about 11 a.m., will be the Memorial Day Service at Boardman Park Maag Outdoor Amphitheater.
The Keynote Speaker is Mr. James Guterba, a United States Marine Corps and Vietnam War Veteran, and a retired educator from the Boardman Local Schools.
Wreaths will be placed in honor of our deceased Veterans and those currently serving.
In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held in the Boardman Center Intermediate School Auditorium at 10:00am.
"We are very happy to have the parade back because it brings a lot of people out, and they take time that day to pause and hopefully reflect upon what it means to be an American and the thankfulness we should have for people who gave their lives to preserve our freedoms and our way of life," said Chair Mark Luke.
The Parade and Memorial Day Service is sponsored and coordinated by the Kiwanis Club of Boardman-Youngstown and Boardman Township Park.
Before the parade steps off, runners can take part in the "Memorial Mile." This run will follow the same route as the parade. Applications are available at Walgreen's, YMCA, and Second Sole.
