WARREN, Ohio -  The Ohio State University Extension service reports that a homeowner in Trumbull County discovered an invasive worm on their lawn last week.

The Hammerhead worm not only eats native earthworms which are a benefit to soil, but the Extension Service also says there have been reports that some people are sensitive to the mucus they secrete.

Experts say it is advisable that the Hammerhead Worm be handled while wearing gloves.

Eradicating the flatworms in lawns and landscaping can be difficult, if not impossible according to North Carolina State biologists.

Experts advise against cutting up the Hammerhead Worm, since they reproduce asexually, meaning that cutting them in half will result in two worms instead of just one.

It is best to kill them with salt or rubbing alcohol.
