Wellsville police are trying to figure out what led to a 14 year old boy being shot near the high school building Tuesday night.
Although authorities believe there was no threat of violence at the school Wednesday, school officials decided to cancel classes.

According to the Wellsville police chief, the boy was shot in the abdomen in a field located off Commerce Street just after 8:30pm.
That area is just a couple hundred feet from the back of the high school.

Police say the boy was flown to UPMC in Pittsburgh and was in stable condition Wednesday afternoon.
Authorities spent much of today looking at nearby surveillance video. The chief says a weapon was recovered.

So far he says they do not have a suspect or a motive in the shooting.
Because of the close proximity to the school, classes and activities were cancelled Wednesday but will resume Thursday.

"We will have police and extra security around the building until we find out from the Wellsville police department that it's no longer necessary. If any student is in need we do have counselors available here in the district, in the building to discuss any concerns or questions they may have," said Wellsville H.S. principal, Coy Sudvary.

Police are not releasing the name of the victim at this time.
