A woman was arrested in Howland on Friday, May 13 for child endangerment after an incident that allegedly took place at an area Holiday Inn.

Police were called to the hotel on Friday evening in reference to a possible overdose. Upon arrival police were advised that the suspect, identified as Monique Whitacre was passed out on the sidewalk.

Police spoke with Whitacre who denied being passed out and claimed that she was just sitting on the sidewalk. Police observed that Whitacre's eyes were constricted and noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from her.

Whitacre told police that she had taken Methadone that was prescribed to her and had two shots of Fireball whiskey.

Police spoke with witnesses who say they observed Whitacre fall to the ground and was drifting in and out of consciousness.

Witnesses also say they observed a little girl, later identified as the woman's six-year-old daughter begging Whitacre to wake up, pulling her hair and lifting her head up.

Police say the daughter appeared to be visibly scared and shaken up about the incident.

Whitacre told police that her fiance was returning to the hotel after grabbing some belongings from their home.

Upon his return, he was given custody of his daughter and Whitacre was placed under arrest and is charged with Child Endangerment.

Whitacre was arraigned in the Warren Municipal Court Monday morning where she pleaded "not guilty" to her charges.
