Regulator advises: Don't eat some Black Forest Ham sold at Walmart

WASHINGTON - Federal food safety regulators are telling consumers not to eat a particular ham product sold at Walmart stores in Ohio, Illinois, and Indiana.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service on Wednesday issued a public health alert for a ready-to-eat ham product because the product may not be fully cooked due to under-processing.
A recall was not requested because it is believed that the product is no longer available for consumers to purchase.
The sliced Black Forest Ham was produced by Swift Prepared Foods from April 28, 2022, through May 1, 2022.
The following product is subject to the public health alert:
1-lb resealable plastic packages containing “Great Value Black Forest Ham Water Added” with a “BEST IF USED BY 07/15/22” date.
The product bears the establishment number “EST. 26C” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The problem was discovered when the manufacturer identified a product that did not appear to be fully cooked.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of the products, according to the USDA.
FSIS is concerned that some products may be in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers.
Anyone who has purchased the products should throw them out or return them to the place of purchase.
