1997: Visiting Judge Harry A. Hanna stops short of ordering the press not to publish the names of witnesses to a special grand jury investigating corruption in Mahoning County but allows prosecutors to convene the grand jury anywhere in the county.
An Ohio State Highway Patrol report says Matthew Davis was a witchcraft devotee who was convinced that he sold his soul to a demon and would die by his 21 st birthday. Davis killed himself a few months before his 21 st birthday, but not before he committed random acts of homicide and rape at Beaver Creek State Park.

1972: Students at Hickory Senior High school present $3,100 to the Mahoning Valley Chapter of the Ohio Kidney Foundation for an artificial kidney machine.
GM's Packard Electric Division will build a new plant at Jackson, Miss. Employment is expected to be about 700 and full utilization of the Warren plant will continue, GM president Edward N. Cole says.
