Protect Your Pet: Car temperatures can quickly rise in upcoming Valley heat

Summer weather has arrived in the Valley.
The Storm Tracker 21 Team is calling for a high that could reach 90 degrees this weekend.
Chief Meteorologist Eric Wilhelm says the 90 degree temperature is about a month ahead of schedule. In fact, Saturday could be a record high and it may be the most significant heat this early in the season in six decades.
So before you head out this weekend, it's a good time to remind pet owners that the inside of a vehicle can heat up very quickly.
The American Veterinary Medical Association, says every year hundreds of pets die from heat exhaustion because they are left in parked vehicles. And, the AVMA says leaving windows cracked has very little effect on the temperature inside the vehicle.
Here is a chart based on information from the AVMA that shows just how quickly the inside of a vehicle can heat up.

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the signs of over heating for pets include:
- Excessive panting or difficulty breathing
- Increased heart and respiratory rate
- Drooling
- Mild weakness
- Stupor
- Collapse
