WARREN, Ohio - Businesses in Warren are not allowed to offer body piercings. That means if someone wants to have a body part, other than their ears pierced, they must go outside the city to find those services.

That's according to a city ordinance that one councilwoman wants to change.

"Times have changed. It's something that should have been passed a long time ago permitting the city of Warren to have businesses allowed to do piercings," said Councilwoman, Ashley Miner.

Warren City leaders will be asked next week to consider changing the city ordinance. As the law is currently written, there are exceptions to the rule for licensed physicians and ear piercings that are done using an ear piercing gun.

It's not immediately clear why the law was put in place.

But whatever the reasoning, Miner says this ordinance is taking away potential revenue for tattoo parlors in city limits and in turn, the city itself.

"It would bring in more revenue for the city and hopefully we can have more tattoo shops setting up shop in Warren," Miner said.

Miner tells us that with this ordinance in place, tattoo parlors are setting up shop just outside of city limits to get around the jurisdiction in areas such as Niles, Champion and Howland.

The issue will be presented to city leaders during a health and welfare committee meeting at 4 p.m. on Monday.

Committee Chairwoman Helen Rucker says any changes to ordinance will require approval by city health department.
