Sand sculptors will shape 20 tons of sand into unique artworks starting Sunday, May 22 at the Eastwood Mall in Niles.

In the Center Court, mallgoers can participate in It's a Sandsational Celebration by watching the sculptors build, getting some sand sculpting tips and participating in sand-related activities until August 14.

The first activity invites children to dig through the prize-filled sand during the Dino Dig on Tuesday, May 24 from 1-3 p.m. Jocko the Clown will be balloon-twisting, and there will be opportunities to color and participate in giveaways. All scheduled events are subject to change.

Three sand sculptors had a hand in creating this opportunity for the sculptors and community.

John Gowdy and Laura Cimador are a married team who have produced several sculptures for five-star hotels, county fairs and weddings, and they have been commissioned by Pope Francis and the White House Commission of Remembrance on Normandy Beach in France.

Carl Jara also helped create the event. He's a resident of northeast Ohio who is a 13-time World Champion medalist and the 2008 World Champion Sand Sculptor.
