Youngstown Police say sixteen-year-old Isaiah Walker was shot in the chest and killed on the city's South Side.

Police say the incident happened on Wilbur Avenue just after 8:00 p.m. when the teen was playing basketball at Homestead Park.

Police say Walker ran to his home about a block away from the park, where he died outside his house in the 700 Block of Wilbur Avenue.

Police and an ambulance were dispatched to the home. EMT’s were unsuccessful in efforts to revive Walker.

The YPD Patrol Division and the Neighborhood Response Unit arrived to help control a large crowd that had gathered on Wilbur.

The reason for the shooting is unclear at this time, and there is no word on any suspects at this time.

Youngstown 1st ward councilman Julius Oliver told 21 News that Walker was "practically family."

Investigators believe that there may have been several people outside in the warm weather who may have witnessed the shooting.

Youngstown Police Captain, Jason Simon says police have very little information on the incident right now and encourages anyone who knows anything to report it to the police.

"No piece of information is too small for us right now, so please call the police department, call the 911 center or you could always call Crime Stoppers and any of those can be anonymous," Simon said.

In July 2020, 19-year-old Brandon Wesley was also killed by gunfire in Homestead Park. No one has been charged in that case to date.
