The streets of downtown Youngstown were packed with 650 volunteers as Youngstown CityScape held its 25 annual Streetscape event June 4 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

After a breakfast provided by local donors, the volunteers hit the streets to plant, mulch, weed and sweep the landscape. Staff and volunteers will continue to maintain the landscape throughout the year.

This year's theme, Streetscape 25 - The Silver Edition, serves as tribute to the long-term role Youngstown CityScape has had in changing the city's landscape.

Sharon Letson, the executive director of Youngstown CityScape, said they are thrilled to celebrate 25 years.

"We've been working to have a vibrant city, to have a place where people want to come," Letson said.

The Streetscape event is held the first Saturday after Memorial Day annually. Each year has a different theme and focuses on a different area of Youngstown.
