"The cannabis industry is really still only just getting started," says Max Simon, CEO of Green Flower, a leading cannabis industry educator.
He wants the Valley to be ready to strike when the iron really gets hot. His company has partnered with Eastern Gateway Community College to offer three certifications for people looking to get into the expanding field.

"They're broken up into teaching you the compliance and regulatory environment of cannabis, which is important because this is a heavily regulated sector, then has a whole unit on skills-based training to teach you cultivation skills or retail management skills," said Simon.

"Eastern Gateway has always been an innovative, progressive institution," added EGCC Youngstown Campus Senior VP Art Daly.

The new courses are already being offered.
They're all online and self taught.
The college also offers job placement help.

"We already have some of the industry partners here in the Mahoning Valley," says Daly. "It's aligning ourselves with them and working with Green Flower to see and showcase what specific jobs are needed right now."

Those jobs involve everything from cultivation to marketing, and attract folks from all walks of life to either break into the industry or advance in it.

"The people who get the training and the credentials necessary to stand out are going to have an enormously exciting future ahead of them," says Simon.
