SALEM, Ohio - Salem Mayor, John Berlin has announced on Friday that he is retiring as mayor after three terms and a decade of leadership as the city's chief executive.

The Columbiana County Republican Party reflected on Berlin's contributions to the Salem community such as improvements to the city's streets, allies and sidewalks.

The party also reflected on Berlin's advocacy of the city's adoption of the Regional Income Tax Authority and fighting against efforts to make Salem a sanctuary city for medicinal marijuana dispenseries.

In one of his last initiatives, Mayor Berlin worked to secure $700,000 in grant funds from the state to establish a new village green park in the heart of town.

Anyone interested in being considered by the Columbiana County Republican Party for the appointment to fill the mayor's remaining term in office should contact GOP Chairman Dave Johnson at 330-223-1511 Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
