Investigators are looking for the cause of a fire that destroyed a home in New Waterford early Saturday.

A passerby reported flames coming from a house on Route 558, just west of Route 7 shortly before 2 a.m.

A Columbiana County Sheriff’s Deputy reported seeing flames throughout the two-story home and coming through the roof.

There were also two propane tanks outside of the home.

A neighbor told dispatchers that they believed no one was in the home and the deputy found no cars in the driveway.

In addition to the New Waterford Fire Department, firefighters from Columbiana, Lisbon, Leetonia, Negley, and East Palestine spent several hours battling flames at the scene.
