The Ohio Department of Transportation announced Monday that the mock-closure of Brookwood Road at the five-way intersection of State Route 7, Market Street intersection with Shields Road, and Indianola in Boardman Township will extend the closure passed the planned date.

In March 2022, ODOT implemented a temporary, mock-closure of Brookwood Road for 90-days to assess traffic flows, operations, and safety at the intersection. During this time, traffic flow and safety were also assessed at adjacent streets in proximity to the project area.

The mock-closure of Brookwood Road was planned to end in June 2022, but the preliminary data and public feedback is indicating closure is providing a safety improvement without notable disruption to nearby neighborhoods. ODOT will extend the closure while the data from this mock-closure is analyzed.  Once the traffic report is finalized, ODOT will discuss the findings with Boardman Township and will post the final report to the project website.

If it’s determined the best course of action is to move forward with the recommended alternative, the closure of Brookwood Road will be maintained until construction begins in Spring 2024.

The existing 5-leg intersection was ranked number 50 in the state on the 2020 ODOT Highway Safety Improvement Program due to high crash frequencies.
