Youngstown gas prices hover below Northeast Ohio average

YOUNGSTOWN - The price of gas keeps going up, but Youngstown's average gas price has stayed lower than the rest of Northeast Ohio.
The average cost of gas in Northeast Ohio is $5.04 per gallon, according to the AAA. The cost is up $0.22 from the average cost during the week of June 6, which was $4.81 per gallon.
However, the average cost of gas in Youngstown is just below the $5 mark at $4.99 per gallon.
When compared with the rest of the state, the AAA shows gas prices in the tri-county area are lower than the rest of the state as well, though not by much.
Prices in the tri-county area range from $4.94 per gallon to $5.04 per gallon, but in some parts of Ohio, the cost is as high as $5.17 per gallon. The state-wide average is $5.05 per gallon.
According to a release from the AAA on Monday, "gasoline demand grew from 8.98 million barrels per day to 9.2 million barrels per day as drivers continue to fuel up for the summer driving season."
One barrel costs about $120, which means 9.2 million barrels per day costs about $1.1 billion.
The AAA is a public service that provides updated information on local, state and national gas prices every day by surveying up to 120,000 gas stations. For more information, visit its website.
