Calcutta's Volunteer Fire Dept. acquires 1st ambulance
The Calcutta Volunteer Fire Department bought its first ambulance from Wintersville Fire Department in April 2022, and it began serving the citizens of St. Clair Township on June 13.
"We are helping grow our department to better serve our community, and like any tool box this is another tool needed to get the job done," said Calcutta Fire Department Chief Dave McCoy.
The ambulance is meant to supplement the local private ambulance companies, Lifeteam and Northstar, and be used as back up if the companies do not have an ambulance available. The private companies will remain the main ambulance companies for calls.
"When Chief McCoy brought this project to the business floor I said it's going to take some logistics to figure out. We have EMT's on the department, but inevitably it's a no brainer if it can help save someone's life. That's the business we are in for the community," said Lieutenant of Calcutta Fire Department Randy Schneider.
The ambulance is from 2017 and was re-lettered locally by Campbell Signs and Apparel.
