Fire erupts in Struthers 'animal cruelty' home

Investigators are looking for the cause of a fire that broke out in a Struthers home that police once described as “unlivable” and was the target of an animal cruelty investigation.
Firefighters from Struthers and Campbell were called to put out flames inside a home at 53 Frank Street just before 11 p.m. Tuesday.
No one was in the home at the time of the fire, but back in March, police were called there after humane agents investigating the death of a dog say they were denied access to the home.
When police got inside, they say they found clothing, garbage, and food on the floor, as well as seven dogs, a cat, and an iguana.
The incident led to the indictments of Joseph Angelo and Jamie Burk who are scheduled to go on trial next month on charges of cruelty to companion animals.
The discovery also led to an effort by Struthers City officials to discuss legislation that would lead to limitations on the number of pets allowed in each household.
