FirstEnergy purposely cut power to a handful of buildings in downtown Youngstown area early Friday morning.

The planned outage was scheduled to take place from midnight to 8 a.m. near West Boardman and Federal Streets.

FirstEnergy spokesperson Lauren Siburkis said the outage is being done to allow crews to complete work on the underground electrical system in the city.

She said the work will enhance electric service reliability for businesses and residents in the area.

As of 5 a.m., FirstEnergy listed five customers without power in the area.
