1997: Two Youngstown projects, the renovation of the former Higbee Building into a state office complex and clean-up at the North Star Steel site each received $1 million state grants.
 
The ribbon is cut for a new $50,000 Easter Seal Society playground at the J. Ford Crandall Center. 
 
The Department of Commerce says that if the owners of the Grand Theater in Salem do not demolish the building immediately they will face fines. The Stark Preservation Alliance says it does not have the  $50,000 that demolition would cost. 
 
1982: Defense lawyer Don L. Hanni Jr. argues before a three-judge appeals court panel that evidence used to convict Steven T. Masters in the murder of his wife Jodi was illegally obtained and should not have been used at his 1980 murder trial. 
 
Sharon City Council gives Shenango Cable TV a new 10-year contract that requires the company to expand the channels it offers and provides for two rate increases.

The Mahoning-Trumbull Counties Transportation Development Study endorses a Mahoning River "stub" canal from Warren to the Ohio River, which would benefit the industry in the two counties and Western Pennsylvania. 
 
State Rep. Michael DelBane of Hubbard announces that $550,000 will be spent to draw plans for 21-grade separations along state Route 11 in Trumbull County.
 
1947: Charles P. Henderson, the Republican mayoral candidate, tells area Young Republicans that Democrats have failed to control gambling or enforce the law in Youngstown.
