YOUNGSTOWN - Sentencing has been delayed for a Youngstown man who pleaded guilty to charges filed in connection with a crash that took the life of former YSU football player Darius Shackleford.

A Mahoning County Judge on Monday pushed back until Thursday, the sentencing of 20-year-old Adrienne Washington.

Police say that on February 6, 2021, Washington was driving a car being chased on the city’s East Side for running a red light.

According to police, Washington and a 17-year-old juvenile were in a car that fled north on Albert Street, near the Himrod Expressway.

Police say as the officer turned around and activated his lights, the car fled the scene at a high rate of speed.

Washington's vehicle ran a second red light at Albert and McGuffey, hitting Shackleford's car in the intersection, according to police. Shackleford died as a result of the crash.

Investigators say Washington fled on foot and was later apprehended. The 17-year-old passenger did not flee the scene.

Washington was indicted on charges of involuntary manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, aggravated vehicular homicide, and failure to comply with the order of a police officer.
