New law lets PA police seize illegal dirt bikes, ATVs

Pennsylvania law enforcement has new tools to crack down on the illegal operation of dirt bikes and all-terrain vehicles on public roads.
A bill sponsored by Senator Pat Browne was signed into law by Governor Tom Wolf.
Police in cities and boroughs can seize and dispose of dirt bikes and ATVs being operated illegally. The law provides local police departments with a variety of disposal options, including allowing for sale or destruction and helping to keep illegally operated vehicles off the streets.
The law, which takes effect in 60 days, allows the issuance of fines up to $300.
The law is in response to the rise of illegal operation of dirt bikes and ATVs on the Commonwealth’s roadways, often by large groups of riders who engage in speeding and reckless driving.
