YOUNGSTOWN - The Ohio Supreme Court has denied a bid for freedom from a Youngstown man serving life without parole for an execution-style double murder.

The state’s high court on Wednesday affirmed an earlier appeals court ruling denying claims from Lorenza Barnette that there were errors in the grand jury process that indicted him in 2009 for the murders of Jaron Roland and Dary Woods.

The bodies of the victims, who were cousins, were found bound with duct tape and bags covering their heads in a burning car near the Mahoning River.

Barnette, now 40 years old, was convicted of aggravated murder, kidnapping, and arson.

Among other things, Barnette claimed that the prosecutor presented misleading and insufficient information to the grand jury.

The justices found that Barnette’s appeal failed to present sufficient facts to prove that a law had been violated during his judicial process and is not entitled to a legal remedy

Barnette remains in the Marion Correctional Institution.
