New political party aims to unite Democrats and Republicans, appeal to moderates

Americans who are tired of the country's two-party system could soon have a new option at the ballot in future elections.
A new political party called the Forward Party is forming at the local level in states across the country including Pennsylvania. The party aims to unite Democrats and Republicans who feel like neither party represents their values.
Instead of starting with a national candidate for president, the party's plan is to grow the movement from the ground up and start at a local level.
The Forward Party wants to become the party for Democrats, Republicans and independents who want more compromise and local-level influence.
When it comes to controversial issues such as abortion, the party would try to find a solution to keep the needs of pro-life voters and pro-choice voters in mind.
"What we're told by one party is we have to look backwards, and what we're told by another is we have to ignore the legacy of who we are and who our industries are," said Former U.S. Representative David Jolly.
"I believe personally that both sides get it wrong and at Forward, we have an opportunity to explore a consensus together," Jolly continued.
Forward is already building its local presence in several states including Texas, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Connecticut.
Former Ohio State Senator, Capri Cafaro tells 21 News that she believes now is a good time to explore the third party option, but she does have some concerns.
"If you don't have that infrastructure, you're not going to be able to recruit candidates, participate in primaries, get on the ballot and be able to compete against the Democrats and Republicans and then ultimately try to beat them," Cafaro said.
Leaders of the party include Democrats and Republicans including former Democratic presidential candidate, Andrew Yang. All are united to gain momentum by 2023.
